ED37 Bear Cub – Figure

The Bear Cub Figure has been designed to be an accurate representation of a brown bear cub capturing its life, energy and charisma. The bear cub is renowned for its playful nature, usually with its sibling, (bears usually have two cubs). Scientists have suggested that the bear cubs play may be for several reasons, the main ones being to burn off energy and increase fitness, to learn about their surroundings, to practise fighting and hunting and to release endorphins and other “feel good” chemicals. As yet, there is no consensus amongst experts as to why young bear cubs risk injury and burn their energy in carefree activities simply to have “fun.” But fun they do have and this bear cub figure captures that fun side of the animal perfectly.

ED39 Hedgehog – Figure

This cute baby hedgehog is one of Matts latest editions to the edge Sculpture range. This sculpture in comparison with many other Edge Sculptures is small but perfectly formed in every way. The colour palette is realistic and uses autumnal shades.

The decision to sculpt the hedgehog in this position was so that you can see its little feet and the animated expression on its face. Although small, you could say this character is larger than life.

ED41 Baby Chimpanzee “Hear no Evil” – Figure

Baby Chimpanzee “Hear no Evil” is part of the Baby Apes range of sculptures.  It now has two new companions, “Speak no Evil” and “See no Evil“, these two new sculptures were added to the range for Spring 2022.

Like us, chimps are highly social animals, they care for their offspring for years and can live to be over 50. In their habitat in the forests of Central Africa, chimpanzees spend most of their days in the treetops. They are clever animals, using tools to eat and drink such as sticks to fish termites out of mounds and bunches of leaves to soak up drinking water.

Chimpanzees are our closest cousins and we share about 98% of our genes. Therefore these sculptures have been designed to have a humanistic and playful demeanour about them. The three chimps are based upon the Japanese proverb, “hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil”, but with a playful twist.  They are the Cheeky Monkeys of the Edge collection!

ED44 Baby Chimpanzee “See no Evil” – Figure

Baby Chimpanzee “See no Evil”,  is part of the collection of three chimps which are based upon the Japanese proverb, “hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil“,  also known as the Three Wise Chimps, but with a playful twist.  They are the Cheeky Monkeys of the Edge collection!

ED16 Shark – Figure

‘He circles and stares with a broken-glass grin,
His body’s a dagger, he has lion?s-tongue skin.
He slides through the water like a rumour, like a sneer.
He’s a quick twist of hunger. He?s the colour of fear.’

ED24 Gorilla – Figure

“I shall never forget my first encounter with gorillas. Sound preceded sight. Odor preceded sound in the form of an overwhelming, musky-barnyard, humanlike scent. The air was suddenly rent by a high-pitched series of screams followed by the rhythmic rondo of sharp pok-pok chestbeats from a great silverbacked male obscured behind what seemed an impenetrable wall of vegetation.”
